City of Iowa City news release
At 11:41 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025, the Iowa City Police Department (ICPD) was called to the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area for a report of a body in Sand Lake near the Park Lodge.
The body was removed from the water and the individual was determined to be deceased.
ICPD is investigating this incident as an unattended death. The identity of the deceased individual is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. No further information is available at this time.
ICPD was assisted at the scene by the Iowa City Fire Department and Johnson County Ambulance Service. The Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office and Johnson County Attorney’s Office are assisting in the death investigation.
