A University of Iowa student faces charges that she assaulted her intimate partner, sending him to the hospital with a concussion.

Coralville Police say Jayci Kvach, 21, was arguing with her partner at their 6th Street residence at 12:30 p.m. on February 10 when the situation escalated. Kvach allegedly took the man’s cellphone and pushed him to ground, causing him to hit his head on a desk. She then allegedly covered his mouth with her hand when he tried yelling for help.

Police say the man suffered a cut upper lip and forehead when Kvach covered his mouth. When the man tried to leave the room, Kvach allegedly slammed the door shut and again pushed him to the ground.

The man was transported by his family to a local hospital, where he was diagnosed with a concussion.

Kvach was booked into the Johnson County Jail at 9:10 Tuesday night and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault with Intent or Displaying a Weapon, False Imprisonment and Obstruction of Emergency Communications. If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum of more than three years in jail.
