An Iowa City man has been arrested after allegedly committing an assault and robbery at a McDonald’s drive thru.

According to police, the victim was at the Mormon Trek McDonald’s at approximately 7:50 pm on October 13th ordering food.  27-year-old Marlon Morales of Highway 1 West approached the vehicle on foot, and reportedly punched the driver in the face multiple times through the open car window. Morales then allegedly grabbed the man’s cellphone and fled the area. He also reportedly threw the stolen phone to the ground, breaking it.

The victim and other passengers in the car knew Morales.

A warrant for the man’s arrest was issued, and he was found Monday afternoon in a Westside Drive residence. Morales reportedly fled from officers and hid in a utility closet in an apartment hallway. When police located him, Morales allegedly presented a knife and ran towards them before fleeing. Officers caught him, and in the ensuing struggle an officer suffered an abrasion to his leg.

Morales faces the original Robbery charge, as well as Interference with Official Acts while using a Dangerous Weapon, Interference with Official Acts causing Bodily Injury, and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations. If convicted on all counts, Morales could be sentenced to up to 17 years in prison.
