The Iowa Transportation Commission could add multiple Johnson County railroad crossings to its safety improvement program for Fiscal 2020.
The commission will meet in Ames next week and has a long list of possible projects it could add to its budget. Among those are four railroad crossings in Johnson County, two in Iowa City and two in North Liberty.
Iowa City is seeking to upgrade the railroad crossing signals at Capitol Street and Clinton Street, while North Liberty is seeking to upgrade the lights for the crossings at Penn Street and Zeller Street.
The cost of each upgrade is not included in commission meeting documents.
The commission does not currently have any projects in Johnson County included in its budget for Fiscal 2019 or Fiscal 2020.
