Fire damaged a residence in University Heights Wednesday morning.

The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a house fire in the area of 600 Koser Avenue just after 11:45am. A caller reported the fire from a distance away and was unclear on the exact address. The first fire unit arrived within four minutes and reported the fire to be at 537 Mahaska Court, with flames showing from the rear of a two-story residence.

Fire crews entered the structure and brought the fire under control within 20 minutes. After a search of the house, a cat was located and removed to safety.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The fire caused damage to the first floor of the structure with smoke damage throughout. Damage to the home is estimated to be $60,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the ICFD Fire Marshal.
