A North Liberty man was taken into custody on a forgery charge from earlier this month.

Incident records say that 37-year-old Brandon Eckrich of George Street had been arrested at the Sleep Inn in the early morning hours of March 14th on outstanding warrants. A subsequent search of Eckrich discovered a check made out to him from Perficut, a site management company that has a branch in Cedar Rapids. The check was in the amount of $346.89.

When contacted about the check, the company stated that they’re looking into whether the check was stolen or is a complete forgery, but noted that they have frequently been the victims of people passing fraudulent checks on their accounts in the recent past.

Eckrich was picked up on the forgery warrant Wednesday afternoon. If convicted of the Class D felony, he could be sentenced to up to five years in prison.

Court records show Eckrich was convicted in February of 2017 for unauthorized use of a credit card.
