An Iowa City man faces additional charges after a police officer attempted to pick him up on a warrant from September involving breaking into an unoccupied vehicle.

Arrest reports indicate that an officer attempted to serve 57-year-old Ricardo Davis of the 900 block of Cross Park Avenue Saturday shortly after 7pm. The officer attempted to identify Davis, but despite several verbal warnings attempted to leave the scene on his bike. Davis then allegedly got off his bike and went into his apartment complex.  When the officer attempted to grab onto Davis, he allegedly pulled his arm away and pushed the officer in the chest.

When asked for his name, Davis would only identify himself as “Michael,” then refused to identify himself at all. His wife was on the scene and gave his identity away by calling him by his nickname, Ricky.

Davis was taken into custody and charged with interference with official acts, assault on peace officers, and providing false ID information.

On September 14th last year, Davis is accused of reaching into an employee’s vehicle at the Broadway Street Casey’s and taking a $60 GPS device. Video surveillance allegedly shows Davis committing the crime; Davis’ wife returned the device to the Caseys.

With the additional charges, he could be sentenced to up to 39 months in prison.
