A transient who allegedly was banging on streetlights on Coral Ridge Avenue early Sunday morning was arrested for allegedly stealing a wedding ring the day before.
According to police reports, 32-year-old Shamma Finch was cited on Saturday for trespass at 2441 James Street, a building that features a handful of businesses including a Domino’s Pizza. One of the businesses called authorities later to report the theft of a wedding ring.
Finch wasn’t hard to identify as a suspect; he allegedly left his wallet in the same vicinity where the ring was left by the victim.
Officers were called to deal with Finch again at approximately 3:45am Sunday as he was reportedly banging on streetlights along Coral Ridge Avenue. When they stopped Finch and had him empty his pockets, the wedding ring was found. The ring had an estimated value of $2100.
Under Miranda questioning, Finch claimed he found the ring in a bathroom.
Finch was taken into custody and charged with 2nd degree Theft, a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison if convicted.
