The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports the Iowa Board of Regents plans to split the $12 funding bump from the Iowa Legislature evenly among the three state-run universities.
That will allow the University of Northern Iowa to freeze their tuition rates, but it will cause the University of Iowa and Iowa State to raise their tuition higher than they projected.
The increase is only 2/3 of the $18 million requested. Regents planned to allocate $7 million each to the UI and ISU and $4 million to UNI had they received the full amount.
The Board will meet next week and recommend that the UI and ISU raise their tuition 3.9 percent; they originally planned a flat 3 percent increase.
Regent spokesperson Josh Lehman spoke to the Gazette about the allocations earlier this week.
