An Iowa City man was taken into custody after threatening to kill his estranged wife and a man she was allegedly seeing.

Police say that 31-year-old Daniel Nichols of Mt. Vernon Road allegedly started to harass his wife after she filed for divorce. He is reported to have sent her text messages Sunday evening, saying “gonna kill him,” and “I will kill Jake,” referencing a man Nichols believed the woman was now seeing.

Then around 4am Tuesday, Nichols allegedly sent the woman a Facebook message, stating “I’m coming for you. I already know where you live and what car you drive. It won’t be tonight, but I promise you’ll look into my eyes and it will be the last thing you see.”

Nichols allegedly admitted to sending the victim a message, and he has access to weapons.

The couple have a child together.

Nichols was taken into custody and charged with two counts of first-degree harassment, punishable by a maximum of four years in prison if convicted. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 6th.
