A Coralville man who was called in as a possible suspect in a church burglary has been taken into custody.

Arrest reports indicate that 46-year-old Chad Anderson of Holiday Road was called in Wednesday at approximately 5:30pm as a burglary suspect at a church in North Liberty and was spotted riding a bicycle on First Avenue.

The officer saw Anderson near the Days Inn and pulled into the parking lot to ask him to stop and speak to him. Anderson allegedly acted like he was on his phone but acknowledged what the officer wanted, and continued to ride his bike in the parking lot.

Once asked again to get off his bike, Anderson complied but then fled on foot. After a scuffle, Anderson was taken to the ground.

Anderson was also wanted on a warrant stemming from a bicycle theft in 2017; he’s accused of using a cutting tool to unlock a $1300 Cannondale bike located at the UI Fieldhouse and riding away with it. He then allegedly pawned the bike at the EZ Pawn in Cedar Rapids for $125.00.

Anderson was arrested and additionally charged with interference with official acts, assault on a peace officer causing bodily injury, and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on the current charges and the theft charge, Anderson could be sentenced to a maximum of eight years in prison.

He has not been formally charged in the church burglary.
