ICPD investigates shots fired near Mercer Park

Iowa City Police are investigating a shots fired incident near Mercer Park.
According to a news release, the ICPD responded to the 1200 block of Baker Street at 5:51pm after receiving multiple reports of gunshots being fired from one car at another occupied car. The involved vehicles and occupants were reported by witnesses to have left the area prior to officers’ arrivals. Investigating officers were able to locate and collect potential evidence from the area, including shell casings and bullets.
Witnesses tell KCJJ one car was t-boned by the other. No injuries have been reported from this incident and no arrests have been made.
Friday morning, the ICPD announced that the vehicles in question, a white Chevrolet Lumina and a silver Chevrolet Malibu, were located by officers Thursday evening and are being held as part of the investigation. Additionally, some people associated with the vehicles have been identified and currently considered persons of interest while investigators continue working the case.
Nearby residents with security cameras have been asked to review their recordings and contact the ICPD at 319-356-5276 with any potential footage or information.
