A hotel guest’s claim that she and several guests at her wedding reception had bedbugs in their rooms appears to be unfounded.

According to KCRG TV-9, the Johnson County Health Department reported Friday that it found no evidence of bedbugs at Hyatt Place on East Court Street.

Jennifer Werderitsch contacted the television station to say nine of her guests reported seeing bed bugs and cockroaches in their rooms, with some suffering bites.

One of Werderitsch’s guests, Anna Naso of Long Island, New York, provided photos of what she claimed were bedbugs and bites she received. County inspectors saw the photos and were unable to confirm they were of bedbugs.

Naso said she asked for the hotel to buy her new luggage, but they refused. When the hotel offered to reimburse the cost of only one of the three rooms in which Werderitsch and Naso claim they saw the bugs, Werderitsch decided to contact the county health department.

Along with the all-clear from the Johnson County Health Department, Hyatt Place also provided KCRG with a report from Orkin saying no sign of bedbugs was found.

Public health officials told the television station that most complaints of bedbugs in hotels turn up negative because the hotel takes care of the problem before inspectors arrive.
