A Coralville man who allegedly took a vehicle without permission defiantly told the victim to call the cops on him. She did, and he was arrested.
According to authorities, 27-year-old Devinity Reynolds of 2nd Street was at the victim’s residence on 20th avenue just after 11pm Monday when he said he was going to take the woman’s car and gas it up in Iowa City. She told him he wasn’t allowed to take her car, but Reynolds allegedly took her car keys and the car anyway.
Reynolds, supposedly defiantly, told the woman to call the cops on him as he left. And she did.
Officers pulled Reynolds over about ten minutes later in the 1500 block of 5th Street. He was ordered out of the vehicle and approached officers, not completely complying with the orders that were given to him. Reynolds also allegedly tried to turn on the officer who was handcuffing him.
A check of his driving record indicated he was barred from driving until May of 2023.
Reynolds was booked into the Johnson County Jail on charges of operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent. He’s also charged with driving while barred habitual offender and interference with official acts. If convicted on all charges, Reynolds could be sentenced to over four years in prison.
