An Iowa City man accused of sexually abusing a child has received an 11-year prison sentence.

31-year-old Scott Michael Suhr of East Court Street was sentenced on Monday. Records show he reached a plea agreement with prosecutors, agreeing to plead guilty to a pair of Lascivious Acts with a Child charges in exchange for a 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse charge being dropped.

Suhr, a former employee of Longfellow Elementary School, allegedly performed sex acts on a child under the age of 12 from 2016 to 2018. The victim described the acts to police…the details of which were later corroborated by Suhr in an interview with investigators.

If convicted on the initial charge, Suhr would have faced a maximum of 25 years in prison. He was instead given consecutive sentences of one and ten years behind bars.
