The death of a man found under the Gilbert Street bridge has been ruled an accident.
That’s according to the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office, which issued its findings in the case on Tuesday.
26-year-old Jonathan Guerrero of Iowa City was found under the bridge on the 400 block of South Gilbert Street, in the water of Ralston Creek, at approximately 6:45am on July 1st.
The Medical Examiner’s office says Guerrero died from “blunt force injuries of the head” among other conditions. He also suffered a right femur fracture and possible drowning.
An autopsy on another man found dead on July 1st, 45-year-old Eric Riskedahl of Iowa City, could take several more weeks. Riskedahl was found dead under the Highway 6 bridge over the Iowa River around 2:45pm on July 1st.
Investigators don’t believe any suspicious or criminal circumstances are involved in either man’s deaths, and the two deaths are believed to be unrelated.
