Allegedly opening several lines of credit using a dead woman’s identity has led to an Iowa City woman’s arrest.

Coralville Police say that in August of 2016 they received a report from a man who said he had received notices from Target, Kohl’s, Best Buy, Younkers, and AT&T regarding recently opened accounts and/or lines of credit under his late wife’s name and using her personal information. The new accounts included transactions totaling over $6,700. The victim told investigators that 60-year-old Debra Gustafson of Church Street in Iowa City had stayed with him for about ten days the month before he began getting the notices.

Video from Younkers and Best Buy shows Gustafson making purchases on the new accounts opened under the dead woman’s name.

Gustafson is charged with 2nd Degree Theft. If convicted, she faces a maximum of five years in prison.
