An alleged drunk driver is accused of crashing into a light pole, causing it to fall and block a major Iowa City intersection.

Iowa City Police were called to a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of Melrose Avenue and Mormon Trek Boulevard just before 4:30 Friday morning. A 2014 Ford Fusion with heavy front-end damage was found in the middle of the street. Tire tracks in the grass showed where the car crossed into the median and struck a light pole, causing it to fall and block the roadway.

The driver, identified as 27-year-old Bradly Bish of Finkbine Lane, showed multiple signs of intoxication and allegedly showed significant impairment on field sobriety tests. His blood alcohol concentration was measured at .221 on a Datamaster test.

Bish was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
