An Oxford woman allegedly found passed out on a bench near a vehicle blocking the road led to her third OWI arrest.

According to police, they responded to the 200 block of North Juniper Street in North Liberty around 12:50am Wednesday on a report of a van completely blocking traffic. They found the van parked perpendicular in the roadway, and came upon 29-year-old Tonya Bulten of Western Avenue passed out on a bench nearby. They woke Bulten, who reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and the odor of ingested alcohol. She allegedly admitted to driving the van.

After being put through field testing, she took a Datamaster test, showing a blood alcohol content of .264. Officers reported that during the entire time of the incident, Bulten tried to fight officers, resisted arrest and didn’t follow lawful orders.

A check of Bulten’s court records show OWI convictions from Johnson County in January of 2014 and another in Benton County in August of the same year.

She’s been charged with her third OWI, a Class D felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to five years. She faces additional charges of interference with official acts and public intoxication.
