Breaking into a rural Johnson County home and falling asleep on the couch could lead to a decade in prison for a Mt. Pleasant man.
Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a residence on 500th Street south of Iowa City just after 4:45 Saturday morning. 21-year-old Rodney Bagwell of Mt. Pleasant was found in the breezeway of the residence. The homeowner said he woke up for the day and found Bagwell sleeping on his couch. Bagwell had somehow arrived at the residence in a vehicle, and said he had been there with another person. He showed multiple signs of intoxication, admitted drinking, and was wearing several bar wristbands.
Bagwell was arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Burglary and Public Intoxication. If convicted, he faces a maximum of over ten years in prison.
