An Iowa City man took all the mystery out of the cause of him hitting a parked car early Sunday morning. He allegedly told officers, “I’m effing wasted.”

According to police, 26-year-old Nolan Basser of Langenberg Avenue caused the accident in the 600 block of Croell Avenue at approximately 5:40am. They were called to investigate the incident by a nearby witness who was outside at the time and heard the crash.

Basser was evaluated by EMTs and refused treatment. He allegedly had the odor of ingested alcohol, slurred speech, and poor balance that had him nearly falling over several times during the incident. Reportedly, his first words to the officers were “I’m effing wasted.”

Basser refused a PBT and Datamaster. A check of his record showed a previous OWI in Johnson County back in 2014.

He was arrested and charged with his second OWI, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a prison sentence of up to five years if convicted.
