An Illinois man has been arrested after allegedly attacking a man he was involved in an accident with.
Police say that 63-year-old Randy Carnithan of Milan got into an accident with another vehicle near the intersection of Dodge Street and I80 at approximately 11:45am Monday. After the incident, Carnithan left his vehicle and approached the other driver, who was still seated in his vehicle. Carnithan reportedly grabbed the other driver by his shirt collar and punched him in the face.
Police say the victim had redness in the collarbone area and his shirt was torn on both sides. When interviewed, Carnithan allegedly explained that he attacked the man because he thought the victim was going to hit him first.
Carnithan was taken into custody and charged with assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to one year if convicted.
