The woman charged with shooting an Iowa City police officer in the face with a BB gun has had a new charge of 5th degree theft added as a result of the incident.

Police say the altercation started at the Starbucks location just off Highway 1 and South Riverside Drive on July 29th around 3:30pm. 25-year-old transient Cierra Lewis is accused by an employee of taking a dollar bill out of tip jar located on the counter of the store. The surveillance video from the incident shows Lewis removing a dollar from the jar, concealing it on her and leaving the store without returning it.

Things escalated at the bus stop across South Riverside Drive nearby when ICPD officers Trai Bunch and Michael Clark confronted Lewis. She ignored Clark’s commands and shot him multiple times with a BB gun; Clark subsequently fired his weapon, striking Lewis.

Ms. Lewis has already been charged with Assault with a Weapon against Peace Officers and Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury. With the added theft charge, another 30 days could be added to her potential maximum sentence of fifteen years if convicted.
