An Iowa City man has been arrested for a string of burglaries dating back almost four years.
Iowa City Police were called to an apartment complex on Woodside Drive just after 7:30 Friday night after a resident reported seeing video of a man trying to break into several apartments. Investigators were initially unable to find the suspect, but noticed several screen doors had been tampered with.
The caller notified police again later that the suspect was back on the scene trying to access the same apartment. Officers located the suspect, who allegedly charged at and struck one of them. The man then fled into a nearby pond, where he eventually followed officers’ instructions to swim to them. He was then taken into custody.
25-year-old Darell Henry of Pine Street was charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Burglary, Attempted 3rd Degree Burglary, Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations, 5th Degree Criminal Mischief and Interference with Official Acts.
Henry was also charged in connection with a Christmas Eve 2015 burglary of a delivery truck outside Jimmy Jack’s on Lower Muscatine Road, as well as home burglaries on New Year’s Day 2016 on Muscatine Avenue and on January 7th, 2016 in the Hilltop manufactured housing community. He faces additional charges of 2nd Degree Burglary, 3rd Degree Burglary, and 3rd Degree Burglary of a Motor Vehicle.
If convicted on all charges, Henry faces a maximum of over 25 years in prison.
