An Iowa City man who allegedly punched the window of a downtown business apparently wasn’t hard to pinpoint as the perpetrator because he matched the description; the suspect was wearing a coconut bra.
Iowa City police responded to a criminal mischief complaint at 1:30am November 3rd at Dulcinea on South Dubuque Street. A witness on scene described the suspect as a male wearing a coconut bra, who punched and shattered a plate glass window.
A short time later, 22-year-old Andrew Schmidt of South Linn Street showed up at an area hospital with lacerations to his arm and matched the previous description. The officer went to the hospital and met with Schmidt. He is alleged to have told the officer that he “got mad and punched a window,” was intoxicated and “not making good decisions.”
Dulcinea estimated that it would cost $1000 to replace the window.
A warrant was issued for Schmidt’s arrest and he was booked at the Johnson County Jail on Wednesday, charged with 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted, he could be sentenced to a prison sentence of up to two years.
