Crashing his car into a light pole on the University of Iowa campus has led to an Iowa City man’s arrest.

Records show it’s the second vehicle crash in which 19-year-old Ryan Henkle of Melrose Avenue has been involved in the last three months.

Iowa City Police say Henkle was driving a black 2006 Cadillac CTS just before 12:45 Thursday morning when he left the road and hit a light pole near the Melrose Avenue/Grand Avenue intersection in front of South Quadrangle. Police say Henkle approached arriving officers stating he “messed up” and that he was drunk. He showed multiple signs of intoxication. His blood alcohol content was measured at .177 on a portable Breathalyzer test and .153 on a Datamatser.

Henkle is charged with Operating While Intoxicated. Court records show he pleaded guilty to a Failure to Obey a Stop Sign charge last month after he hit a motorcyclist in Marion on September 4th.
