An Iowa City man faces a sexual assault charge after an incident last summer at a downtown hotel.

The alleged assault was reported to Iowa City Police on July 14th. The reporting party claimed 26-year-old Deante Cole of Cayman Street had followed her and her friends to Hotel Vetro, where the women had rented a suite. The woman went to bed around 3am, but she says Cole followed her into bed and sexually assaulted her.

The other women in the suite reported walking in on the alleged attack, leading to a confrontation and Cole eventually getting dressed and leaving the suite.

The reporting party told police she had remembered Cole saying earlier in the night that he would make her his wife and that he liked things about her body.

Cole was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 12:45 Saturday morning and charged with 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse. If convicted, he faces a maximum of ten years in prison.
