A Cedar Rapids woman has been taken into custody after allegedly using bad checks to steal merchandise from Von Maur locations in Cedar Rapids and Coralville.

Police were called to the Coralville location on the Iowa River Landing Tuesday afternoon on reports of suspicious activity. They met with loss prevention staff, who advised that two females in their store, who were also seen on video at the Cedar Rapids location, had passed bad checks. One allegedly gave the Cedar Rapids location a check for about $757 in merchandise, while the other, identified as 28-year-old Tishana McDade of Elaine Drive Northwest, passed a check for over $1311 at the Coralville store.

McDade was positively identified from the previous surveillance and was stopped outside the store.  She reportedly made admissions to both the Cedar Rapids and Coralville incidents.

McDade is also accused of giving authorities a false ID, that being the name on the fraudulent check. She was properly identified after running her vehicle registration.

McDade was arrested and charged with Forgery, 3rd degree Theft, and providing false identification information. If convicted on all charges, she could be sentenced to over seven years in prison.
