Police say a Chicago woman who allegedly shoplifted items from a Coralville store sped away when confronted by police.
Arrest reports indicate Dashay Rencher and a juvenile were suspects in a robbery. Loss prevention states that she and an unnamed juvenile were actively shoplifting items from the store. When confronted, Rencher allegedly threatened him with pepper spray.
The two are then accused of assaulting the loss prevention employee as they were taking the items in question back. At one point, the employee was knocked to the ground. The man reports that he was assaulted numerous times by Rencher and the juvenile.
As the squad car arrived with lights and sirens on, she reportedly sped away, cutting off numerous vehicles and passing on the shoulder before being stopped on the Interstate 80 on-ramp at First Avenue.
When questioned under Miranda, Rencher said that she fled because she was scared.
She was taken into custody and charged with 2nd degree Robbery, 5th degree Theft, Eluding, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. If convicted on all charges, Rencher could be sentenced to over eleven years in prison.
