A reported robbery at a Coralville thrift store has led to an Iowa City man’s arrest.

Coralville Police say 44-year-old Paris Alexander of Finkbine Lane entered A to Z Thrift Store on 1st Avenue just after 6pm Saturday and asked the cashier for change. When the cashier opened the register, Alexander allegedly grabbed the cash from the drawer and fled on foot. The cashier gave chase, but Alexander allegedly told him to back off as he reached into his pants pocket and said he had a gun.

An off-duty Coralville Police officer saw Alexander running from the scene and told him to stop, identifying himself as a police officer. Alexander continued running, ignoring similar orders from another arriving on-duty officer. He was eventually taken to the ground and arrested. Approximately $35 of the store’s money was found on Alexander’s person.

Alexander is charged with 2nd Degree Robbery, 3rd Degree Theft and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over 12 years in prison.
