A Coralville man faces the possibility of ten years in prison after his arrest on assault charges.
According to police, 25-year-old Gage Ratcliff of 3rd Avenue and the woman involved had been living together intimately within the previous year. They say Ratcliff assaulted the woman Sunday at approximately 10am by strangling, punching, biting and headbutting her. She told authorities that Ratcliff kept her from leaving the residence for about a half hour, and threatened to kill her during the alleged assault.
She added that she couldn’t breathe while she was being strangled, and suffered serious injuries as a result of the incident.
Ratcliff was taken into custody and charged with false imprisonment, first degree harassment, domestic abuse assault with intent to inflict serious injury, and domestic abuse assault impeding airflow. A no contact order was requested by the victim.
