The Iowa City Community School District has announced a new initiative with the Coralville, Iowa City and North Liberty public libraries making it easier for students to access the libraries.

The AIM card is being released this week. It will allow all district students from kindergarten to 12th grade to check out up to three items, including books, books on CD, magazine and digital materials, from any of the three public libraries. The card will also serve as the Student ID card for district students.

Items checked out using the AIM card are exempt from late fees or fines.

In a release from the District, Iowa City Public Library coordinator of children’s services Angela Pilkington said, “…students will be able to walk into any public library…and check out materials they want without having to prove their address, or permission from a parent or guardian.”

Students can begin using the card during Christmas break.
