Allegedly driving into the back of another car while drunk has led to a child endangerment charge against an Iowa City man.
A witness called Iowa City Police just before 6pm Tuesday to report a motor vehicle accident on Amber Lane. Arriving officers found 42-year-old Alonzo McDowell outside his house standing next to a vehicle that had rear-ended another, parked vehicle. Police say McDowell showed multiple signs of intoxication and admitted to driving and rear-ending the other vehicle. He was also allegedly in possession of a small amount of marijuana. It was also discovered that McDowell’s 12-year-old son was in the vehicle with him at the time of the crash.
McDowell provided a blood alcohol content of .274 on a portable Breathalyzer test and .235 on a Dtatamatser. He’s charged with Operating While Intoxicated and Child Endangerment. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of three years in prison.
