A Coralville man who was convicted of indecent conduct with a child back in 2007 has been arrested for not adhering to the terms of the Sex Offender Registry.

Police say that 82-year-old David Rule of the Iowa Lodge on 2nd Street is required to register with the state’s Sex Offender Registry as a Tier Three Sex Offender. He’s required to appear at the County Sheriff’s office every three months to verify address and other relevant information.

The Sex Offender Registry clerk notified authorities on February 6th that Rule missed his December 2019 verification appearance. When he was contacted at his residence, Rule allegedly told authorities that he thought his ten years was up and didn’t have to continue to register. He was reportedly given until February 14th to appear at the Sheriff’s office and informed that he must register every three months for the rest of his life.

Rule allegedly failed to appear by the 14th and was taken into custody on the morning of the 17th. He’s been charged with Sex Offender Verification Violation, a Class C felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to ten years if convicted.
