Pulkrabek announces run for Iowa House

Johnson County Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek announced Thursday that he will run for the Iowa House in District 73, which includes eastern Johnson County and all of Cedar County.

Pulkrabek has a 35-year career in law enforcement, which includes stints as President of the Iowa State Sheriffs’ and Deputies’ Association,   and president of the Iowa State Association of Counties. He started in law enforcement as a Johnson County deputy sheriff in 1985, and has been County Sheriff since 2005.

Pulkrabek will be running against incumbent Bobby Kaufmann of Wilton, who has been in the state legislature since 2013. He currently serves on the House Government Oversight , Judiciary, Ways and Means, and State Government Efficiency Review committees. He’s currently the chair of the House State Government Committee.

In a press release announcing his candidacy, life-long Iowan Pulkrabek lists investing in public schools, making healthcare affordable, creating jobs and revitalizing rural communities among his goals.
