At her daily news briefing Wednesday, Governor Kim Reynolds announced an additional 12 deaths to COVID-19.
That brings the total to 148 since the pandemic began. The deaths occurred in Blackhawk, Dubuque, Jasper, Linn, Marshall, Muscatine, Polk, Pottawattamie and Washington Counties.
New cases bring the total to 6843, with a recovery rate of 35 percent. 42 more people were hospitalized with coronavirus, for a current total of 323. 100 of the patients are in ICU, with 74 now on ventilators.
Blackhawk County became the first to surpass the 1000 mark, with 1082 cases. 13 people there have died due to COVID-19. Linn County has 652 cases, and Johnson has 453.
The governor announced two new Test Iowa sites opening next week, in Woodbury and Scott Counties. She also extended the due date for property taxes again, moving it to May 27th. The 1.5% monthly penalty will now begin on May 28th.
