ICPD investigating reported assault near downtown

Iowa City Police are investigating a reported Wednesday morning assault near downtown.

According to an ICPD news release, at about 8:10am officers received a report of an assault near 515 E. College Street. The caller reported being grabbed from behind by an unknown male while in the alley to the south. The victim was able to fight and get away from the male, who ran eastbound. No physical injuries were reported.

The suspect was described as a black male in his 20s, at least six feet tall, 160 lbs., with brown eyes. He was said to be wearing all black clothing, including a hoodie that was pulled around his face, and a black scarf. He was also wearing purple winter gloves with black finger pads.

Iowa City Police are asking for the public’s help to investigate this incident. Anyone who was near this location during this time, or with possible information, is urged to contact Officer Colin Fowler at 319-356-5276.
