IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team received a verbal commitment from one of the top 2021 in-state prospects on Friday when three-star receiver Brody Brecht announced his commitment on Twitter.

Brecht, a native of Ankeny, said two things caused him to choose Iowa over his other top school, Iowa State.

“I felt (Iowa) would get me to the NFL and develop me the best and I wanted to play baseball as well,” Brecht said.

Brecht is the sixth player to commit to Iowa’s 2021 recruiting class since April 14.

Brecht also had scholarship offers from Kansas, Kansas State and Nebraska.

Iowa’s class now stands at 14 verbal commitments, eight of which are Iowa natives, and is ranked No. 7 nationally, according to Rivals.com.

“A few good commitments can spark a whole wave of them,” Brecht said.

The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Brecht will join Connor McCaffery as multi-sport athletes on the Iowa baseball team.

Connor McCaffery, who is the son of Fran McCaffery, is a guard on the Iowa basketball team and plays outfield and first base on the baseball team.

“(Playing both sports) will be a challenge but I’m up for it,” Brecht said. “I just have to stay focused.”

Last season, Brecht caught 35 passes for 796 yards and seven touchdowns.
