Solon High School has a new football coach.

Anamosa head coach Lucas Stanton was announced as the new head Spartan on Friday. He’s previously been a head coach at North Cedar, as well as an assistant at Mt. Vernon and Dubuque Wahlert.

Solon was 12-1 and Class 3A state runners-up last fall. Previous coach Kevin Miller announced after the season he was stepping down to spend more time with his family.

Anamosa went 8-19 in three seasons under Stanton, including 2-7 last year.

Solon is ranked #6 in the Cedar Rapids Gazette’s off-season poll. They’re scheduled to open the 2020 season hosting #4 Williamsburg on August 28th.
