Primary elections are set for Tuesday, and there are several local contested races on the ballot.
One county race includes incumbent Democrats Lisa Green-Douglass, Royceann Porter and Rod Sullivan facing off against challenger Dean Phinney for three available seats on the Johnson County Board of Supervisors.
Another race is to replace retiring Johnson County Sheriff Lonnie Pulkrabek. Brad Kunkel and Al Fear are running as Democrats to fill the role.
No Republicans have filed for either position. Pulkrabek is leaving office to run against Republican Bobby Kaufmann in State House District 73.
U.S. Representative Dave Loebsack is also retiring. Rita Hart is running unopposed for his seat on the Democratic side, while the Republican entries include Tim Borchardt, Steven Everly, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Rick Phillips and Bobby Schilling.
Five Democrats are running to unseat Republican U.S. Senator Joni Ernst. They include Michael Franken, Kimberly Graham, Theresa Greenfield, Eddie J. Mauro and Cal Woods.
In the state House of Representatives, incumbent Vicki Lensing is being challenged in the Democratic primary by Christina Bohannan in District 85.
Polls are open from 7am to 9pm Tuesday. Voters are asked to follow all social distancing and COVID-19 protection procedures.
