An Iowa City couple faces charges that they burglarized their neighbor’s storage unit.
Iowa City Police say 29-year-old Timothy Heath and 46-year-old Michelle Steine, who live together in an apartment on West Benton Street, were both captured on video stealing items from a storage unit in their building between August 5th and August 31st. Heath was then captured on video selling the stolen items at a local pawn shop.
A search of Heath and Steine’s apartment turned up more of the stolen property. That’s when they both admitted to committing the burglary. The estimated value of the stolen items in $3,000.
Heath and Steine were booked into the Johnson County Jail Friday night and charged with 3rd Degree Burglary and 2nd Degree Theft. If convicted on both charges, they each face a maximum of ten years in prison.
