The University of Iowa has issued 36 citations for violations of the school’s COVID-19 campus health and distancing guidelines.
According to a statement released by the university on Friday, since the beginning of the fall semester 15 students were found in violation of social distancing guidelines, 14 were found violating face covering rules, four failed to follow guest policy expectations, and three failed to follow quarantine and isolation expectations.
Among the 36, 29 received disciplinary reprimands, while the other seven were given written warnings.
114 COVID-19 violation complaints are currently under review.
In all, UI officials have received 109 social distancing complaints, 106 complaints about failing to wear a face covering, 35 about violations of guest policy, and six regarding violations of quarantine or isolation.
The school reported 111 new COVID-19 cases among students for a total of 1,732. New faculty cases total two, for a semester total of 23.
48 students are in self-isolation, while three are under quarantine.
According to UI definitions, quarantine is used to keep someone who might have been exposed to COVID-19 away from others. Self-isolation is used to separate people infected with the virus from people who are not infected.
