A North Liberty man has been charged with assault and child endangerment after allegedly attacking a female family member in front of her 3-year-old child.
According to the arrest report, the woman was involved in an argument with 28-year-old Reginald Benton of Village Drive at about 10:40pm Monday. She retreated to the bathroom, but Benton allegedly pushed the door open, pushed her down, placed his hands around her throat and stated he would kill her.
The woman told police that he also held her head to the floor and suffered bleeding on her knee and a scratch on her chin. The woman’s 3-year-old child was also in the bathroom and witnessed the event.
While being taken away, Benton reportedly said several times that after he’s released, officers would be back for a murder.
He’s been charged with Domestic Abuse Assault impeding Airflow, and Child Endangerment. If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison.
