No actual fans will be in the stands at Kinnick Stadium for Saturday’s delayed home opener against Northwestern on Saturday, but over 900 Hawkeye fans have paid to have cardboard cutouts seated virtually.
Families of players and coaches will be allowed in, but they will be joined by rows of the cutouts, according to the Iowa City Press-Citizen. The cutouts will be grouped in different areas of the stadium, including the end zones, and behind the Hawkeye bench.
People have purchased cardboard cutouts of themselves, their pets, and families. The paper says you’ll probably see Tom Brokaw, Ashton Kutcher and George Kittle in the stands, among others.
Cutout sales benefit the University of Iowa Dance Marathon, and cost $35 for students, $50 for season ticket holders, and $70 for others. Orders will be taken through the Monday of game week for the other three Kinnick games, including a week from Saturday vs. Michigan State, the November 27th game with Nebraska, and December 12th against Wisconsin.
