The group of Black former University of Iowa football players have withdrawn their demand for a financial settlement, but will move ahead with filing a racial discrimination suit.
KGAN TV reports that the demands for a $20 million settlement for eight ex-Hawkeyes, which were rejected last month by the university, included demands that head coach Kirk Ferentz, offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz, and Athletic Director Gary Barta be fired.
The withdrawl settlement from the office of Demario Solomon Simmons, states that they hoped the demands would initiate productive settlement discussions, but added, “Clearly, now is not the time to do so.”
The notice leaves the door open to settlement discussions once the racial discrimination suit is filed. The station reports that Solomon-Simmons filed an open records request for the case last week.
