Governor Kim Reynolds has extended the State of Iowa’s Emergency Proclamation by 30 days, and has issued additional limitations on businesses and sporting events.
At Tuesday’s news conference, the governor listed the new limitations. They go into effect at Midnight Wednesday and include:
- Social, community recreational or leisure establishments must keep groups limited to 8 people or less, with the exception of households of 8 or more. Six feet of social distancing must be maintained and other reasonable measures must be taken to ensure coronavirus mitigation efforts.
- If more than 25 people are gathered indoors, all participants over two years old must wear masks except when eating or drinking. This also applies to outdoor gatherings of over 100 people, including wedding receptions.
- For youth and high school sports and other activities, only two spectators are permitted per student-athlete. The 25 or more people rule applies to those events as well. The Iowa high school football semifinals and finals at the UNI-Dome are exempt.
- Restaurants or bars must maintain six feet distancing between groups, which again are limited to 8 people unless from the same household. Patrons must be seated when eating or drinking.
- Personal service establishments like salons, barbershops, massage therapy, tattoo parlors and tanning facilities must ensure customers are six feet apart when performing services and all patrons and providers must wear masks.
- Bowling alleys, pool halls, bingo halls, arcades, indoor playgrounds and children’s play centers must also keep the six foot rule in place, and the eight person rule should be enforced.
Reynolds said that she strongly encourages all Iowans to think about how their actions could be contributing to the spread of coronavirus and step up their vigilance in preventing infection. She stopped short of issuing a statewide mask mandate.
