Sentencing has been reset for a man accused of an attack outside the North Liberty Rec Center in July of 2019.

20-year-old Rasean Yates of Savannah Drive is accused of beating the victim into unconsciousness and continuing the attack while the man was lying unconscious.

Police say security video shows Yates and 20-year-old Pacific Achiza of Alydar Drive committing the crime. It reportedly took several officers to arrest Yates and get him into a squad car. He allegedly continued to threaten officers even after arrested, demanding to have his handcuffs removed so that he could fight them.

Last November, Achiza was sentenced to five years in prison and ordered to have no contact with the victim through November 2024.

Yates was due to be sentenced last November 7th, but on Monday was continued for the sixth time. His new sentencing hearing is set for the afternoon of December 14th. Facing charges of Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury, and Interference with Official Acts causing Injury, Yates could be sentenced to up to 12 years in prison.
