A University of Iowa student faces charges that she assaulted Iowa City Police officers who were trying to break up a fight on the Ped Mall early Sunday morning.

Police responded to a fight involving a reported five to ten people in front of Brothers Bar & Grill just after 1:30am. One person involved was detained as officers were surrounded by what was described as “a mass of people”. That’s when 22-year-old UI student Megan Adams of Norwalk allegedly approached police and was told to step back. Instead, she allegedly became combative and pushed two officers.

One officer grabbed Adams, but she allegedly pulled away. She allegedly pushed away another officer before being taken into custody. Police say Adams showed multiple signs of intoxication, and a later portable Breathalyzer test showed her blood alcohol content as .167%.

Adams is charged with Assault On Persons In Certain Occupations, Public Intoxication and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum of 14 months in jail.
