The City of Iowa City is now accepting applications for funding of public services, public facilities, and affordable housing projects for Fiscal Year 2021.

According to a release from the City, Associate Planner Brianna Gabel says that they expect about $30,000 available for Aid to Agencies. This fund is earmarked for nonprofits providing public services.

Over a half million dollars are available for the Community Development Block Grant and HOME Investment Partnerships combined. These programs work toward the goal of providing safe and decent affordable housing, suitable living environments, and expanded economic funding primarily for low and moderate incomes. The City expects about $573,000 coming from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. HUD requires that nearly $350,000 of that to be used to acquire, rehab or construct affordable housing, or give direct assistance to renters and homeowners. The rest can be used for housing or public facilities projects. The funds should be available for use when the fiscal year begins on July 1st.

All applications will be reviewed by the City Council and the Housing and Community Development Commission. Applicants are encouraged to attend one of the Zoom workshops the city is hosting. They’re scheduled for Thursday at 11am, and Tuesday January 12th at 3pm.

Questions on the application process can be directed to Neighborhood Services or the Associate Planner’s Office. Applications for all of the funds are due to the city by January 29th.
