A male pedestrian on Highway 100 near Interstate 380 was struck by a vehicle and killed over the weekend.
According to an updated release from the City of Cedar Rapids, the incident occurred around 11:30pm Friday. Arriving officers came upon 26-year-old Jason Lafler of Cedar Rapids, injured along the roadway. First responders provided emergency medical care, and Lafler was transported to UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The driver of the vehicle that hit Lafler remained on scene. He was identified as 37-year-old Chistopher Christensen of Cedar Rapids. He and a passenger were both transported to UnityPoint with non-life threatening injuries and later released.
Based on the Police Department’s initial investigation, it appears that Lafler was in the roadway intentionally , and no charges are pending in this accident.
